August 2025 Wrap Up- I've Moved!

Hello all of you beautiful people!

My goodness, did August wrap up way too quickly! I found a place in Seattle in a good location at a good price completely by accident, and hurriedly moved into the place before August had finished. That also left me camping in my apartment for at least a week because I hadn’t been planning on moving until mid September at the latest, sooooo I had no way to get my stuff until September 4th due to plans and scheduling.

But I now have a place, I have volunteer work, and now I need to find me a job! (more on that below)

New Blog Post!

I finally did it! I got a blog post out! This time, it was late because I was without internet for an embarrassingly long time.

For this one, we’re dipping into deadly situations in both fictional AND real life! And I get to talk about how amazing and safe vaccines are, because I like to get political that way :)

I’ve Built up an Immunity: The Science of Venom Resistance

If anyone’s interested in more blog post ideas, send them to me via this google form! I know folks have sent me some in the past via text or email, but I have to be honest… those get lost in the sauce of life! This will be much easier to keep track of!

How’s the Lab Website Coming Along?

It’s slow going, unfortunately. The time it takes to read through the papers to genuinely understand what’s happening, translate that into more everyday terms (I can’t go completely “laymen summaries” for all of them, as I can’t keep redefining what “platelets” are on every paper. I have to assume right now will have at least looked at the lab’s front page and know what that cell is), and then make a summarizing figure is not the fastest process ever. It also doesn’t help that I’m a notoriously slow reader. But I think once everything is up, the research section is going to look FANTASTIC!

Once I get those done, I’m going to start working on animations for the lab. I’m genuinely excited for those… but we must focus on one section at a time or we shall never get anything done.

How’s the Job Search?

Well… As of today, I’ve been certified to start walking dogs for two different companies… At least I’ll be able to get a tiny bit of income.

TLDR: It’s not going great.

I did apply for a teaching position two days ago and am REALLY hoping that I get it. I’d teach Biology at Seattle Pacific University. They didn’t put a salary on the job posting, but even a tiny bit of cash is better than no cash. Plus, I genuinely love teaching, so it’d be a win-win situation for everyone. I should know soon whether I have the job or not.

If not, I’m writing up plans to start my own patreon and science tutoring business while continuing to apply for lab jobs as a “hobby.”

Book Chat: How far are we?

As per the survey, here’s an update on the book process! I just finished the draft of chapter 24, am finishing up chapter 25 and 26 simultaneously, and have a few lines on chapter 27. In terms on plot, we’re nearing the end of act 2, and am gearing up for a much, much shorter (but way more intense) act 3.

(For those who are unfamiliar with fantasy books, having this many chapters is not uncommon. To use Harry Potter as a well known example, those books had well over 30 chapters at times)

As for how many words I’ve written, I don’t have the exact count due to how I have the chapters on google drive, but I know I’m well over 50,000 words.

In fact, we need to do a new survey since I’m pretty sure we’ve gone through most of the topics I originally put out. Here’s a new survey, this time with a free response instead of multiple choice!

Scicomm Art Practice!

While I’m setting up everything in Seattle, I’ve also been practicing art on my Ipad so I can have "draw tiny illustration” as my .

WIP of my Butterfly painting on my Ipad.

Currently, this is me sketching and painting over this real picture that I took while at the Pacific Science Center:

The real butterfly photo that I took with my camera.

I’m extremely bias: I love my photo more, but that’s because I’ve been into photography for years. If given the choice, I’d take the camera over a paintbrush. But using my real photos means that I don’t have to use crappy AI to get reference images for practice!

Time to Finish Out September!

I’m unabashedly a fan of Pumpkin Spice. I love it. I crave it. I’m going to drink so much pumpkin spice tea that my own blood will smell like cinnamon and nutmeg.

On that note, if you’re in Seattle and need someone to walk your dog, I’m your girl!

Cheers!
